• Nintendo Wii Games - Gamefly Top 10

  This morning, all of the preorders at EBgames and Gamestop will certainly be snapped up in a matter of minutes...  If you are one of the lucky few, congrats!  Now for the easier task of figuring out which Nintendo Wii games are must haves during the holidays... Below we have the to 10 requested Nintendo Wii games queued up over at Gamefly.  Not surprisingly, Ubisofts Red Steel has taken the top spot, with Zelda following closely behind.  Interestingly enough, Ubisoft has the most requested games for both the Nintendo Wii (Red Steel) and the PS3 (Assasins Creed).  They are certainly making a push on the next gen platforms and these results seem to be promising for this 3rd party publisher that seems to be pushing EA around lately... • Wii Pre-orders Begin Oct. 13 at Gamestop

  Confirmed by TheWiire, it appears that Wii preorders will commence on Friday, October 13th...  Get your camping gear ready! Retailer GameStop confirmed to The Wiire today that Wii pre-orders for the United States will begin Friday, October 13. While Wii games have been available for pre-order for a few weeks now, Friday will mark the first time GameStop has opened up pre-orders on the hardware. In order to make a pre-order, gamers will need to go to a local GameStop or EB Games and ask to put down a set amount of money (between $25 and $50) on a Wii. The money placed on a pre-order goes towards the final price of the product. North America is expected to receive approximately two million Wii units by the end of 2006, with half of that shipment expected at launch, though recent reports of expectation-exceeding Wii production may cause those numbers to change. The Wiire could not confirm the pre-order status of GameStop/EB stores in territories outside North America, nor of other retailers such as Target, Wal-Mart and Toys 'R Us. GameStop, which recently merged with EB Games, is a specialty video game retailer, but also sells accessories, movies, action figures and playing cards. • PS3 Preorders begin at Gamestop / EBgames!

  Gamestop / EBgames announced during a quarterly conference call that they will be accepting preorders starting October 10th at all of their brick and mortor stores.  All preorders will require a $100 down payment which can be made in cash/credit or trade-in.  Reserves are reported as extremely low with less than 10 units per store for the intial launch batch.  Top performing stores may have up to 15 units.  This is for the initial batch, so of course more will follow. Here is the complete blurb from the Gamestop email newsletter: Limited PlayStation 3 Pre-order GameStop and EB Games will begin accepting limited pre-orders for the PlayStation 3 console on Tuesday, October 10, on a first come, first served basis. Due to extremely limited supply, we expect to deplete this allocation very quickly, most likely in minutes. We will not accept additional pre-orders at this time. To avoid an unnecessary trip we strongly recommend you call your local store to determine availability. A $100 reservation deposit is required, which can be funded with cash, credit or trade. As we cannot control production and shipping issues by the manufacturer, a reservation deposit does not guarantee receipt of a system available to purchase at launch. Reservations/Purchases are limited to 1 per household. Our limited online pre-order program will be announced at a later date, after software and accessory availability dates are confirmed. • Nintendo Wii Preorder Strategy!

  Nintendo Wii Preorder Strategy Sold Out - two words every gamer dreads when searching for their beloved next generation console...  Well it seems like yesterday when everyone was scampering around trying to locate a Xbox 360 during the 2005 launch shortage.  The Nintendo Wii should be in better supply, but due to the simple phenomenon known as supply and demand, there will certainly not be enough units to go around. So what is an anxious Nintendo gamer to do?  Well, a good plan of attack is understanding where pre-orders may/may not exist and doing your best to jump when the opportunity is available. Certainly information is your best ally when looking to get your hands on a hot holiday product.  Not only are you competing with hard core gamers, but also the crazed mother who will go to the end of the earth to get little Johnny his Wii (now that still just doesn't sound right... but I digress...).  I kid you not, when I was in line for the Xbox 360, there were more mothers than gamers.  These moms where the ones that got in fights in school, you know, the ones where no rules applied - biting, scratching, ripping... etc...  The other set of competition are the greedy eBay bastards.  Thanks again to supply and demand during the holidays, these entrepreneurial folk can make a small fortune while you sit at home with your purple GameCube - replaying Zelda and telling yourself that you'll pick one up when the dust settles.  So the competition is tough as nails, and you can throw all the rules of society and law out the window. So you have to have a plan, a back up plan, and a back up to the back up plan... Beware the Soccer Mom! So certainly you can break down the pre-orders into two groups: Brick and mortar retail stores Web Brick and Mortar Pre-order Strategy First, find out which stores will offer pre-orders.  Typically EBgames / Gamestop will be offering pre-orders.  Another known store is FYE.  If you know of other stores please send your feedback below.  Typically big retailers like BestBuy, Circuit City, Target, ToysRus etc. shy away from pre-orders at their physical stores, instead favoring the first come, first server method on launch day. With EBgames/Gamestop (or really any store), it is always a good strategy to get to know the employees or manager(s) who have detailed information about their pre-order process and list.  Even though it is not ethical, you will often get bumped up the list if you pre-order extra games/controllers.  Get to know the employees/manager EARLY, and don't be afraid to ask the manager!  Come the holiday time, these employees and managers will be getting pegged with pre-order/availability questions, so get to them early before they start blowing you and all those soccer mom's questions off. Web Pre-Order Strategy Speed is key if you want to pre-order your Nintendo Wii console on the web.  In late September, Amazon had pre-orders available for about 4 hours.  This was subsequently shut down, as word spread across the internet and the initial units were all spoken for.  Web sites that will most likely offer pre-orders include: Amazon Costco SamsClub Walmart Some of these sites offer the option to sign up for an email newsletter.  Go ahead and sign up if available as they will sometimes tip you off to when the pre-orders become available.
