PATIENCE PAYS OFF!
Whether you passed on paying full retail, or have arrived to the party late, welcome to 'The Price Drop'.
This week we have four noteworthy video game price drops to report.

To kick things off, we are happy to report that the regular edition of Saints Row 2 (PS3/Xbox 360) gets a price drop of $10 to $49.99. While Grand Theft Auto IV sold more copies, many consider Saints Row 2 to be the more 'fun' game of the two. Saints Row 2 was developed by Volition, and published by THQ. It initially released on October 14, 2008 and scored a respectable 81-82 on Metacritic.
On a side note, apparently rapper 50 Cent is in interested in working on a 'Saints Row' movie in the future. Perhaps this will provide Hollywood with a much needed 'video game franchise translated to movie' blockbuster? Um no...

The next price drop to report is Call of Duty: World at War for the PS3. It is now availble for $49.99 ($10 price drop). Interestingly enough, it is not a cross-platform price drop as all other versions are still at their original launch prices.
This fifth installment in the series was developed by Treyarch and published by Activision. The game was released worldwide on November 11, 2008. The PS3 version of Call of Duty: World at War scored an 85 on Metacritic.

A 'family friendly' alternative to playing a pimp or slaughtering Nazi's is Scene It? Box Office Smash Bundle. The price on the game bundle with 4 big button controllers has been dropped a healthy $20 to $39.99. If your grandmother can't operate these big button controllers, then perhaps some peanuckle at the Moose Club is more in line.
The game was developed by Krome Studios and released on October 28, 2008. Typically these types of games don't perform well on Metacritic, but it scored a fairly respectable 75.

Finally, our last price cut to report is on Ubisoft's Far Cry 2 (PS3/Xbox 360). Far Cry 2 is now available for $39.99 ($20 price drop).
Far Cry 2 released on October 21, 2008. Although marketed as a true sequel to the original Far Cry, it's game play more closely resembled Grand Theft Auto's open sandbox, versus the approach of the original. Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Far Cry 2 have a rating score of 85 on Metacritic.

The Vic 20 had nothing on this beast!
This week on the Wii Shop Channel is full of firsts.... The first FPS is available with the WiiWare title Onslaught. In addition, the anticipated release of Commordore 64 titles makes news as three titles are released on the Virtual Console.
Full Details:
WiiWare
Onslaught (Hudson Entertainment, 1-4 players, Rated T for Teen—Animated Blood, Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Onslaught is an FPS that puts you in the middle of a futuristic war between humans and insectoid aliens. Become part of the Elite Interstellar Strike Force and fight against an overwhelming onslaught of alien life forms. Enjoy the rush of mowing down wave after wave of aliens with machine guns, grenades and more. Feel your heart pound as you battle gigantic boss aliens. Beyond the normal game, Onslaught includes additional modes that let you play with rivals from around the world using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Team up with as many as three other players in Free Battle mode, or compete on special maps to see who can get the most points by killing enemies before time runs out in Ranking Battle mode. (Router and broadband access required for online play. For more info, go to http://www.nintendo.com/.)
Virtual Console
The Last Ninja™ (Commodore 64, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older—Animated Blood, Mild Violence, 500 Wii Points): The evil Shogun Kunitoki has long envied the powers of the Ninja brotherhood and would do anything to acquire their knowledge. To this end, he has sworn an oath to their total destruction. Once every decade, all Ninja must travel to the Island of Lin Fen, where they pay homage to the Shrine of the White Ninja and receive further teachings from the Koga Scrolls. Seizing the opportunity, Kunitoki summoned forth all the spirits from the depths of the Nether World and flung their full force against the amassed Ninja. None escaped the wrath of Kunitoki. Word of this unnatural disaster soon reached Armakuni, the last Ninja. Gathering all his courage, he has sworn to wreak a terrible revenge on the Shogun and all his followers. What unforeseen hazards await him?
INTERNATIONAL KARATE™ (Commodore 64, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older—Mild Violence, 500 Wii Points): INTERNATIONAL KARATE is a simulation of a karate tournament in which one person can play against the computer or two players can compete against each other. During the game, you'll fly to various locations around the world. In all stages of the game, a wise old judge will watch over you and award you either a half-point or a full point, depending on how successful a hit has been.
Pitstop II™ (Commodore 64, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Pitstop II was the first game that brought serious auto racing action to the computer screen—the thrill of battling an opponent, the excitement of fighting for the lead out on the track, and the suspense of struggling to be the first out of the pits. Third-person graphics and a split-screen display allow one or two players to experience the challenge of car racing head-to-head. Six of the world's toughest tracks are waiting, from Brands Hatch and its hairpin turns to the mile-long straight of Vallelunga. You can practice against the computer, but nothing will compare to the fun of racing against another person. Indeed, Pitstop II proves that car racing was never meant to be a solo sport.

Gamefly Top Queued!
Last week, Killzone 2 made gamefly chart history by being the first PS3 exclusive title to top the typically Xbox 360 dominated cross platform list. The historic week at the top of the Gamefly charts was short lived as Killzone 2 has been toppled by Halo Wars.
For the week of February 17, 2009, Halo Wars takes the top spot on the cross-platform Gamefly Top Ten 'Most Queued' list. Following close behind is Killzone 2 (PS3). House of the Dead: Overkill is at the top of the Nintendo Wii Queue as well...

First off is a post Superbowl price-drop on Madden NFL 09 (360 /PS3) to $49.99. Madden NFL 09 released on August 12, 2008 and continues the legacy of the Madden cover jinx.

Our second price drop to report is on NCAA Football 09 on Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, and Nintendo Wii. Relive the (or crush) the Gators BCS National Championship for $39.99 (360 /PS3) or $29.99 (PS2/Wii).

EA's highly rated original IP Dead Space is yet another notable price drop to report. You can find it for $49.99 (360 /PS3) at most retailers. Dead Space released on October 14, 2008 to critical acclaim and managed high Metacritic scores of 89 and 88 on the Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively.

Our final EA price cut to report is on the dual purpose Nerf-N-Strike Bundle on Nintendo Wii. The game bundle comes with dual purpose Switch Shot EX-3 Blaster.
Dual purpose details:

R-Type Dimensions is available for download starting today on Xbox LIVE Arcade. This updated version has both arcade classics R-Type and R-Type II overhauled with new 3-D graphics, but offers the ability to switch back to the original 2-D mode.
The game supports full co-op support locally and over Xbox LIVE as well, and will set you back 1200 Microsoft Points for the full game.
Full Details:
We love the 80’s this month with “R-Type Dimensions” on Xbox LIVE® Arcade …sans cheesy love songs and fashion mullets
Despite releasing during an era characterized by unfortunate haircuts and glam rock, 80’s arcade game “R-Type” managed to define the shooter genre – which is why Xbox LIVE is bringing this classic to our own Arcade with “R-Type Dimensions” on February 4.
Coin-op classics “R-Type” and “R-Type II” come together as “R-Type Dimensions,” with original 2D and new, fully-enhanced 3D graphics. The classic game play remains untouched, while the all-new “Infinite” game mode allows even novice pilots the chance to complete both games in either solo or co-op play via Xbox LIVE.
Published by Microsoft and developed by Tozai Games and SouthEnd Interactive, “R-Type Dimensions” will be available for 1200 Microsoft Points worldwide on February 4. The game is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.

WiiWare
Snowboard Riot™ (Hudson Entertainment, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Fantasy Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): This snowboard racing and battle game can be enjoyed by multiple players and is compatible with the Wii Balance Board™ accessory. In an intense scramble for first place, guide your character down the slopes while snatching up items to attack and defend against rivals along the way. Up to four players can battle and participate in various ranking modes via Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection.
LONPOS (Nintendo, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): Looking for a puzzle game that anyone can play, but still offers plenty to master? Look no further than LONPOS, with its straightforward premise and large variety of puzzles to solve. Each puzzle revolves around a rectangular playing field of 55 spaces. Using a set of 12 pieces, the goal is to place every piece into the playing field, filling it completely. The higher the level, the more pieces you'll need to fit correctly into the playing field. Challenge yourself with two single-player modes or bring a friend to compete against or cooperate with. When you think your skills are worthy, use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to check out how you compare with other LONPOS players or download additional puzzles and backgrounds. (Router and broadband access required for online play. For more info, go to www.nintendo.com.)
Virtual Console
Sonic Chaos™ (SEGA MASTER SYSTEM, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Play as Sonic or Tails in Sonic Chaos, which was originally made for the SEGA MASTER SYSTEM. Dr. Eggman (a.k.a. Dr. Robotnik) has stolen the Red Chaos Emerald to create nuclear weapons. This has thrown the remaining Chaos Emeralds off balance, causing them to transport to a parallel universe. As a result, Sonic's home, South Island, is sinking into the ocean. Speed through various levels in your crusade for the six Chaos Emeralds. Perform Strike Dashes and Super-Peel Outs as Sonic, or Spin Dash and Fly as Tails, and restore order in Sonic Chaos.
